Bedford Sprint Triathlon

400m pool swim/25k bike/5k run 

FVS TRI were the biggest Club at the Bedford Triathlon with 12 competitors performing well over all the age groups.  

Simon Hall was first home for the Club and 10th overall with the 2nd fastest run split from the 143 finishers, which also gave Simon 2nd in the 35-39 age group. 

Lesley Dutton was 1st home for the ladies in 1:24:36. Paul Dutton, together with Judeth McCall and Anna Priestly all made their triathlon debuts with Anna a fantastic 2nd in her age group. They will all be back for more in the 3 race series! 

Mandy Waters and Jim Oyston were category winners and Mike Utton swam the fastest swim leg in the race at 05:52 giving an excellent overall performance from the Club.

Ashbourne Duathlon

12k run/40k bike/4k run

Jan Forrester competed in the prestigious Ashbourne Duathlon, her first multi sport event and competitive debut for FVS TRI

Jan finished the mixed terrain run and hilly bike course in 3:07:16 which earned her a 2nd in her age group (50+). What a fantastic start to the season!

HITCHIN NOMAD 10mile Time Trial

FVS TRI riders were out in force at the local 10mile cycle time trial organised by Hitchin Nomads with 10 riders in a field of 16.

Jon Gillham was 1st home for the Club with 26:08 and Sam Tophill was first female in 29:41

Pete Timmins completed his 1st triathlon in a time of 1:23:14 and was 249th out of 322 competitors.

Cambridge Duathlon

7k run/40k bike/7k run

5 members of FVS TRI competed at Cambridge in a high quality race being used as a qualifying event for the World Age Group Duathlon Championships in Australia later in the year.  The 7k run/40k bike/7k event was run in near perfect conditions and was completed in 1:43 by Steve Harrison, the 1st FVS TRI athlete home.

Kevin Holt qualified for his second GB representation of 2005 in the 20-24 age group having already been selected for the Age Group Long Course Triathlon World Championships in Denmark.

Sam Tophill and Jackie Perry (GB Age Group 2004) also scored qualifying times for their age group, but have elected to focus on triathlon this year.

Newest addition to the team Stephen Hughes (100th member) finished in 2:08:51

London Marathon

Mark Simpson was also in great form with another PB almost 30 mins faster than his debut, and only previous marathon, at London 2 years ago. Mark is looking to focus on triathlon this year using his superb running form to great effect in the multi sport event.

Gavin May continued his build up to Ironman France where he will have to swim over 2 miles and cycle over 100 miles before completing the marathon at the end of the race! He finished in 2:57, another great sub 3 hour time for FVS TRI’s top athlete.

Sunday 17th April

New Forest Duathlon

Run 5.5k / Bike 22k / Run 6.4k

Simon Patenall raced in the New Forest this weekend in a mixed terrain duathlon. Although the bike leg was on the road the 2 runs were on a mixture of road and forest tracks. Simon finished the event in 20th in a time of 1:31:06


Sunday 10th April 2005 

Simon Patenall raced the Flitwick 10k and finished in 43:43 and Mandy Waters competed in the mixed terrain Royston Heath Trail 6 miler finishing in 53:38 for 8th female (5th senior).

Simon Hall won the first race honours for newly affiliated run club FVS TRI with a superb victory at the Sandy 10.

Simon, a member of the newly formed FVS TRI run coaching team, won the 10 mile road race event in a fast time of 56:10 heading a strong and competitive field.  Partner Sam Tophill was also in the honours with a time of 68:09 winning 3rd Female Vet.

Gavin May used the event as part of his build up to his next Ironman Event in Nice in June cycling the 40 miles too and from the event and still finishing in 6th place with a super time of 59:41.

Gary Shanahan continued his run of good form running a new personal best in 71:23 and Simon Patenall finished in 79:50 also having cycled to the event.

LINCOLN 10k

Mark Simpson was also in great form with another PB as he continues his London Marathon build up. Mark ran 37:06 which is an improvement of more than a minute on his previous best and placed him 60th from 4000 entrants.

Mandy waters also competed and ran a time of 53:27.

CYCLING RESULT

Essex Roads Cycling Club 70km Spring Road Race 3rd April

Michael Summers and Jeremy Prodger raced for FVS TRI today in the 70km cycle road race for 3rd and 4th category riders.

Michael scored excellent points with a 7th position finishing in a sprint 3 minutes behind the breakaway winner. Jeremy came in with the main bunch and finished 20th. The race was held over a 4 lap 16km course and was blessed with excellent weather conditions. 

Michael and Jeremy are the top cyclists in FVS TRI and will be encouraging more riders to compete in mass start road racing as well as the more popular time trialling events.
