BEDFORD SPRINT TRIATHLON Race 1
3 members of FVS TRI kicked off their competitive triathlon season with an outing at Bedford. Due to the local nature of the event, 10 members of the Club incorporated a visit to support within their training ride for the weekend. And their support was very vocal!
Mike Utton’s swimming strength from playing water polo meant an early lead in the 400m pool based swim. With the 3 guys all having similar 5K run times the race was going to be won or lost on the 25km bike section. Jeremy Lintott showed that all that indoor bike winter training was worth it as he took 2 minutes back from Mike Utton to finish just over a minute ahead.
The end of the race came with a 3 lap 5k run around the park which provided the supporting throng with ample opportunity to vocally advertise the Club!

WELWYN 50K CYCLE TIME TRIAL
Members of FVS TRI were out in force to contest the Welwyn Hilly 50Km Cycle Time Trial on Good Friday. This was the first Time Trial of the season and what a testing one it proved to be. Riders set off at 1 minute intervals with often the faster riders starting later in the order to give them something to aim at.
The course started and finished in Welwyn and travelled via Hitchin, Offley, Whitwell and Kimpton taking in almost every steep hill in the area!
The winning time was an astounding 1:10 which left some us wondering how we could be more than ½ an hour faster on such a hilly course!

Cambridge Duathlon- World Championship Qualifier
Jackie Perry competed in the World Duathlon Qualifier at Cambridge today. Jackie finished the 7k run, 30k bike, 7k run in 2:08 and qualified for the World Duathlon Championships in Belgium.
Jackie’s performance was all the more remarkable as her bike suffered accident damage having being blown off the car roof rack on the M11. Despite having to cycle with bent rear wheel she still managed an excellent performance!
Jackie finished 7th in her age group to secure one of the 8 qualifying slots to represent Great Britain at the Age Group World Duathlon Championships in Belgium in May.
