Endurancelife Devon Coastal Marathon

Jeff Ryan and Chris Suckling completed the arduous multi terrain course taking in steep cliff paths, boggy bridleways and narrow country lanes and were  89th and 90th out of a field of 150 with times of 5:37:25 and 5:37:26 respectively. The winning time for the event was just on 4 hours showing the tough nature of the event.

Royston Cross Country

Hitchin based triathlon club FVS TRI were on cross country duty again this weekend at the penultimate race in the Sunday Cross Country League which includes most of the top clubs in Herts and North London.

The veteran ladies lead the way again with a great team performance over the hilly Therfield Heath course near Royston. Winning the vets team race Lesley Dutton, Jackie Perry and Sam Tophill cemented their overall lead with just the remaining Watford fixture next weekend and look forward to hopefully improving on their second place from 2006.  Jackie Perry leads the individual vets rankings and Lesley Dutton has an excellent chance of a medal if she maintains form for the Watford fixture.  First female home was Chris Yuill in the senior race in a time of 24:07 for the approximate 3 mile event. Newest Club member Michelle McPhail put in a super performance in her first event for the club, choosing the hardest league fixture to make her debut!

In a strong team performance across the board, the FVS TRI men are still challenging for 2nd in the main competition as well as leading the B Team and Vets Team rankings.  Run Coach Brian White lead home the men with a time of 35:03 for the approximate 5 miles of hills to finish 14th overall and 1st MV50. Coach Gavin May made a welcome to return from injury with a 36:27, just pipped by veteran Steve James in 36:20 but just ahead of James Grierson who finished in 36:35.  Junior athletes Sean Bradley and Andrew Mussett continue their battle for top junior slot with Sean taking the honours this time having lost out to Andrew at the January MK Duathlon.

Watford Half-marathon

17 triathletes from Hitchin based triathlon Club FVS TRI took on the best runners in the region at the Watford Half Marathon on Sunday.  Top veteran runner Brian White, lead run coach at the multi sport club, continued to shine winning the MV50 category in a time of 1:19:10 for the 13.1 mile undulating road race. Brian was first home for the Club in 41st, with the first lady honours going to newest member Kerri Renshaw in a time of 1:29:18.  Kerri was in a very close race with 2 Ironmen who were stretching their legs over the shorter distance. Rob Wilson led the group home in 1:29:10, 8 seconds ahead of Kerri with Mike Utton a further 3 seconds behind in 1:29:21. The coaching team is divided over whether Mike was being gentlemanly or needs to work on his sprint finish!  Kev Ash won the closest of races over newly qualified British Cycling Level 2 Coach Dave Hard with the margin a mere 2 seconds after 1:35:29 of racing.  An excellent debut at the distance for Ellie Burton saw her dip under 1:50 with a time of 1:49:25
