Northants Ian Walker Memorial Road Race
95km mass start road race
Jeremy Prodger finished this event in the bunch managing to avoid the mass pile up in the last 500m but not contesting the sprint up front!
Sunday 26th June
Circuit of the Cotswolds
102 mile road circuit
In the spirit of continental style mass participation cycle events, this inaugural loop attracted many riders from Clubs all over the UK.
FVS TRI members Jon Gillham, Kevin Holt, Dave Farthing, Ellie Burton, Steve Harrison and Colin Cumberland embarked on this epic ride with mixed results. Although the scenery was grand, the roads were narrow and poorly surfaced in places leading to many minor and some major spills.
In separate incidents on the same hill, Kevin Holt and Ellie Burton both had the misfortune to come off their bikes. Kevin has a minor shoulder problem and Ellie communed with nature landing in a bed of nettles having to take avoiding action at speed to avoid a downed rider (not Kev!)
Colin finished in 8.22 having started with a different group, and Ellie finished in 7:50 surrounding by all the boys who made sure she completed without further incident.
Saturday 25th June
Dambuster Olympic Triathlon
1500m river swim/43k bike/9.6k road run
FVS TRI couple Simon Hall and Sam Tophill travelled to Rutland water to compete in the Dambuster triathlon which doubled as a World Championship qualifier and so attracting a quality field.
The scenery was excellent but the weather was poor with rain throughout and a strong breeze.

FVS TRI IRONMEN!
Ironman France
2.4m sea swim/112m bike/26.2m road run
Top FVS TRI triathlete Gavin May continued his remarkable performances in Ironman events with a top time in the French race held in the magnificent location of Nice in the South of France. Gavin was joined by veteran triathlete Ian Ellery for the event and they both sported matching Club white tri suits to combat the oppressively hot conditions!
Despite an enforced lay off with illness which prevented any serious training after his success in Ironman Hawaii late last year, Gavin produced a storming 3:37 marathon to finish the event in 11:18.
Ian also recorded a super time despite 2 punctures disrupting his race! After a well deserved rest, Gavin will now enter serious training for the World Championships to be held in Denmark in August.
