FVS TRI Golden Trio cleans up at MK Duathlon!

In a fitting end to the Milton Keynes Big Cow Winter Duathlon Series FVS Tri were not only the biggest team but also won the overall series, the junior series and the female vet series.  Top FVS TRI triathlete Steve Harrison cruised home to a win on the day to lift the main series prize of a week’s training camp in Italy. Steve was also approached by the GB Elite Duathlon Team Manager with a view to potentially racing internationally at the Elite level. His excellent form has recently attracted a support deal from local bike and triathlon shop TRISPORTS Letchworth who will be supplying a Ridley Carbon Race Bike for the 2006 season. Not a bad weekend!

In the category races FVS TRI were strongly represented with Lesley Dutton taking the female veteran series Gold and Sean Bradley winning the junior race and the overall Junior Gold.  With the second fastest club time on the day Steve James’ consistent form paid off earning him a bronze in the Male Vets series. Jan Forrester collected bronze in the female vet series following a strong performance in the last race.

New members Martyn Hynes and James Grierson made their  competitive debuts for FVS TRI and finished an excellent 21st  and 24th overall, 13th and 16th in the male senior race and 2nd  and 3rd  home for the club respectively in the senior event.

Top Ten Finish for Top FVS TRI Cyclist

Michael Summers stormed to a top ten finish in the Team MK Circuit Race held at the MK Bowl on Saturday. The race was a one hour + 5 laps format and the winning group raced for just over 30 miles. Having missed the 9 man breakaway Mickey chased down the group alone to finish 10th and gain a BCF licence point towards his ranking and the coveted Cat 1 status. With 199 points to go, it’s going to be a busy race season.  Kevin Smart made his road racing competitive debut in the same race and despite finding the pace somewhat faster than he expected managed to finish in a respectable position in the main bunch.

Michael Summers travelled to his second race in 2 days to compete in the Ed Taylor Memorial Race in Essex. Finishing 2nd in the bunch sprint he managed a 17th overall but sadly out of the points this time.

Kevin Sambridge ran a PB at the Silverstone Half Marathon based around the magnificent motor racing course. Finishing in 1:29:56 he just managed to dip under the one and half hour barrier for the first time. Bradley Baynham completed his first half in a superb time of 1:37:57.

Top Ten Finish for Hall and a Whole Load of PBs for the Others!

Six members of FVS TRI braved the cold conditions to compete in the Milton Keynes Half Marathon and achieved a top ten finish and four quality Personal Bests.  Simon Hall was first home for the Club with a 1:14:41 to give him an excellent 10th overall.  A welcome return from injury saw Steve Wells getting back somewhere near his best with an excellent 1:20:11, good enough for 5th in the Male Vet 40 category and 36th overall.

PBs for Jeremy Prodger (over 2 minutes) and John Burgess (16 minutes!) provided encouragement as they both prepare for the London Marathon.  Also a PB for Rob Wilson (8 minutes) who is busy training for his first IronMan event later in the year, and Dave Coard (2 minutes) making it a real quality day out for FVS TRI.

Cross Country Gold Medals for Veteran Duo

FVS TRI picked up a super haul of trophies in the Sunday Cross Country League finishing second overall in their debut season.  The club also picked up individual honours in both male and female competitions beating all the specialist running clubs in the process, finishing second only to Welwyn based Garden City Runners.

Steve Harrison secured 2nd place overall with second place on the day after a dramatic sprint finish.  Vets Lesley Dutton and Steve Chalk ran well to take top honours in the series veteran FV45 and MV50 categories respectively.

In the team competitions, the club was also second in the female vets and a solid third in all the other age categories to take second place overall when combined.
