***** Jon lifts 1st Trophy for FVS TRI *****

Furzefield Sprint triathlon (750m pool swim/20k bike/5K run)

FVS TRI were out in force at Furzefield with Jon Gillham, Ellie Burton, Pete Eames, Penny Wylie, and Jeremy Lintott all competing.

Jon Gillham had the race of his life to finish 3rd male and 2nd in his age group in a time of 1:12:34. Jon is one of the FVS TRI Club Coaches and has to fit his own training around coaching other members of the Club. Having to ease back a little on training has really boosted his race performance, and there is still more to come!

There was also great support for the FVS TRI competitors as the Club’s Sunday training ride was planned to go to Furzefield and again FVS TRI were the noisiest supporters!

New FVS TRI Club colours arrive next week and so the Club are really looking forward to competing as a team in their new kit, with supporters all in matching apparel. Should be some sight!

Aqua Pura Eton Super Sprints (400m open water swim/19k bike/5k run)

Colin Cumberland competed in his first triathlon for FVS TRI and finished in a time of 1:13:19. This is particularly impressive as Colin has been training in the novice swim group on Monday nights and was a little concerned about the open water swim. Great stuff!

A1 50 Mile TT

Adam Laycock and Gavin May, both GB Age Group representatives, continued their preparation for Iron Man distance Triathlon events with a 50 mile time trial. Just to make it a little harder they cycled there and back giving a round trip of nearly 100 miles.

The early morning event held on the A1 north of Baldock provided some fast times on the straight but undulating course.

Adam Laycock 2:05:18 (Ave 23.9mph)     6th

Gavin May       2:07:25 (Ave 23.5mph)   8th

They both scored very well fro FVS TRI with 6th and 8th respectively in the open competition. Not bad against specialist time trialists?

Hitchin Nomads Open 10 Mile Time Trial

Earlier in the week 2 FVS-TRI Members competed at the Tuesday Evening Hitchin Nomads Open 10 Mile Time Trial.
Jeremy Prodger was 2nd in a time of 25:12 (23.8 mph) and Jon Gillham 5th in 26:18 (22.8mph) out of a field of 17 riders.

Sunday 9th May

Stratford  Sprint Triathlon

Michelle Pratt competed in her 3rd sprint in 4 weeks completing in 1:17:04. Unfortunately due to the lack of lap counters, Michelle swam an extra 2 lengths than the required 400m. This was followed by a 23k bike and 5k run!

Michelle will now rest until July when she will race her first Olympic distance at Milton Keynes.

Sunday 4th May

EVERSHOLT SPRINT TRI

Michelle Pratt and Ellie Burton competed for FVS TRI in this event which was a very cold 400m outdoor pool swim, 20k bike and 5k very multi terrain run (including stiles and cattle grids!)

Sunday 4th May

Hart Sprint Triathlon           ****** 2 Seconds for FVS TRI! ******

3 members of FVS TRI competed in Hampshire on Bank Holiday Monday and came away with 2 second places

Simon Hall and Sam Tophill both achieved second place in their age categories (35-40) in this popular early season sprint event.

366 competitors completed the 400m swim, 20k bike and 5k run and Simon managed a very commendable 23rd overall. With a reasonable swim (40th fastest) and bike

(47th fastest) Simon shot up the rankings with a very strong run which was 6th fastest overall.

Sam’s strong running pedigree also saw her shoot up the rankings with the 33rd fastest run to finish 86th overall, including all the men!

Chris Suckling had the quickest FVS TRI swim on the day of 6:41 which was good enough to be 28th overall.
