FVS TRI One Two at Bedford

FVS TRI swept the board at the second Bedford Sprint Triathlon with a 1st and 2nd overall for Steve Harrison and Boris Chambon, as well as age group gold medals in 5 age groups and silver in a further two.  Steve Harrison returned from an Italian Training camp, won as first prize in the MK Winter Duathlon Series to open his triathlon season with a stunning victory. The TRISPORTS supported athlete was racing his new sponsored bike for the first time and managed to secure the win over his club mate with a superb run leg, opening a gap of nearly a minute.  With a second overall Boris Chambon is now the leader of the Series showing an improvement of 2 positions and over 3 minutes on the first race. With the final event in July, Boris is now favourite to lift the title and the substantial prize haul!

Further age groups wins were also recorded for Sean Bradley (17-18) in his first ever triathlon, Sarah Bryce (45-49) and Anna Priestley (50-54) showing a welcome return to racing after injury.  Ian Mackerness continued to race himself fit with an 8th overall and silver in the 40-44 age group; an improvement of over 3 minutes and Helen Shulver also earned a confidence boosting silver in the 30-34 age group.  Further improvements from Steve James, Andy Procter (2 mins), Sarah Bryce and Pete Eames (1 min) and a huge 9 minute improvement from Alison Clayton-Smith!

This race also featured first time triathlons for Nick Downing, Wendy Scales, Gerry Corrance and Chris Penfold

Medals at Cambridge, Bedford and Stevenage!

In a busy holiday weekend of competition, FVS TRI competed with success in Triathlon, Duathlon, and Track running and cycling!

Simon Hall was first home for FVS TRI at the Cambridge Duathlon which was a British Triathlon National Ranking Series and ITU World Age Group qualifying event held over a 7k run/35k bike and 7k run.  James Brooks in his debut season was fast enough to qualify in the 20-24 age group and will now take his place on the plane to Newfoundland to represent GB in his age group in the Duathlon ITU World Championships in July. As this trip is self funded, anyone interested in supporting a young most promising athlete should contact Keith.  In the women’s event, Sam Tophill, Lesley Dutton and Jan Forrester were all bronze medallists in their respective age categories.  Less fortunate was Brian White who suffered a double puncture to take him out the race.
