FVS TRI 5k RESULTS

In the second of the three race Stevenage 5k Series, FVS TRI runners Matt Knott and Tim Somers both improved on their previous race performance and earned new PBs in the process. Charles Wade was first home for the Club in a minute faster than 2004 and Mark Grayson broke the 20 min barrier, almost 5 minutes faster than 2004. The race had a disappointing turnout with only 160 finishers, well down on previous years.

TEAM FVS TRI HONOURS AT HEREWARD RELAY

FVS TRI sent 3 teams to the Hereward Relay, a 38.4 miles mixed terrain race from Peterborough Cathedral to Ely Cathedral, crossing over bridleways, bridges and fields.

127 teams contested the event and FVS TRI Men’s “A” team came 3rd overall and the FVS TRI Ladies were 2nd in the female team event.

The Men’s “A” team was made up of Steve Wells, Paul Gibb, a fantastic last minute substitute for the unwell Brian White, Simon Hall and Steve Harrison who continued his super run of form to produce the fastest individual time on the final stage  which secured a well earned 3rd place overall  from the  127 teams in a time of 3:57:24.

The Ladies team of Lesley Dutton, Sam Tophill (fastest vet on stage 2) Jackie Perry and Paula Adams were in contention throughout in a very competitive event in which the lead changed hands a number of times. 2nd in the ladies event they also managed 45th overall in a time of 4:48:21

The Men’s B team of Dave Brown (returning after a 1 year sabbatical) Kevin Ash Danny McGuigan and Danny Brooks were just overtaken by the women in the final leg to finish 49th overall in a time of 4:52:51, an excellent result

Brian White Conquers Boxhill!

The Ballbuster Duathlon

8M run, 24M bike, 8M run

The punishing course comprised of an 8 mile run including Boxhill, 3 times around the same lap on the bike for 24 miles and then to finish a further 8 mile lap taking in the hill for the 5th time!

First home for the Club was Gavin May who also earned a PB on the day with a 2:53:10 to finish 12th overall.

Paula Adams was an excellent 4th female in her first outing on Boxhill to finish in 3:18:36 and Jan Forrester was 3rd Veteran in a time of 4:01:20

Steve James chose the Ballbuster as his first competitive outing for FVS TRI and managed a super 3:15:25 to finish 78th from the 352 starters. Not a bad way to start your career in multi sport events!

FVS TRI COACHING EXCELLENCE!

FVS TRI Club Coach Keith Perry has just been named as British Triathlon Eastern Region Coach of the Year, and he will now go forward for the National Award to be announced at the British Triathlon Annual Awards Dinner in Loughborough next weekend.

A great believer in developing coaching practice, Perry works hard with his team of coaches to provide a full programme for the 140 athletes who make up the multi sports Club at FVS TRI. In the same weekend, top Club triathlete Gavin May qualified as a Level 1 Triathlon coach and Michael Clark will complete his Level 2 course by the end of the year. This will expand the coaching team to 5 qualified triathlon coaches and 5 qualified run coaches.

Rob Wilson has just returned from Club La Santa where he finished 2nd individual in the mini triathlon with a PB of over 5 minutes on last year. He completed the 400m pool swim, 15.2k bike and 4.4k hilly run in 58:52

Closer to home FVS TRI were racing at the Stevenage Half Marathon. In testing conditions Jeremy Prodger was first home for the Club with a PB in 1-29-57, David Hamill was second home in 1:44:29, and Tony Shortland finished in 1:52:10, Tim Somers 1:55:32 (PB) and Mandy Waters in 2:02:20.

Dave Robinson competed in the Dublin marathon and finished in 4:40:15.
