FVS TRI at Cheshunt and Venice!
With the Triathlon season over, FVS TRI members are now concentrating on running
events to improve fitness over the winter.
Most of the Club headed for the mud to compete in the first Sunday Cross Country
League fixture at Cheshunt, and some spent the weekend in Italy!

VENICE MARATHON
Top FVS TRI couple Simon Hall and Sam Tophill were joined by
Keith and Jackie Perry to compete with 6500 athletes in the 20th
Anniversary Venice Marathon.
This most picturesque marathon started 24 miles outside the city with the last 2
miles touring the historic sites and canals. With the athletes negotiating 13
bridges and a lot of cobbles to finish over the Grand Canal just beyond St Marks
Square this was an unusually challenging event!
With fantastic support from the locals Simon Hall finished in a super time of
2:55:31 to place 4th GB runner.
In the ladies race Sam and Jackie were 1st and 2nd GB women in 3:19:52 and
3:37:44 which was a significant PB for Jackie.

Gold for Sam, Aquathlon Silver for Kev!
Top
FVS TRI run duo Simon Hall and Sam Tophill travelled up north to
compete in the Liverpool 10k.
This
high quality race was inevitably won by Kenyan athletes in both men’s and
women’s races.
Simon
Hall was in near PB form with a 34.00 and finished close on the heels of the
Kenyan winner, but sadly winner of the ladies race! In this high quality field
his excellent time was only good enough for 21st overall and 15th in the
senior event from the 3500 finishers.
Sam
Tophill ran a slightly below par 40:45 but still won the women’s the vet
35 gold medal and an excellent 9th female overall.
John
Burgess raced the Woburn 10k and followed on from his excellent race at
Standalone last week to beat the magical 40 minute barrier with a run of 39:49
to finish 15th overall, 8th in category from the 500 finishers.
Several
FVS TRI members competed in the local Luton Aquathlon organised by Club member Dave
Coard through Boxfit Gym in aid of Sweet William Appeal.
Last
years winner Kevin Holt had to settle for second on this occasion but
vowed to return for gold next year. Ian Hobbs was third in the 400m pool
swim/5k park run based event.
Michelle
Pratt was 3rd in the ladies 5k event with Anna Priestley 4th
Mark
Racher competed in the 400m swim/10k event and recorded an amazing swim time
of 4.39 to finish 4th overall
