LONG Distance Triathlon Champioships

Ibiza 2003 - Spain

The Triathlon event consisted of a 4km swim in the Mediterranean Sea, a 120km bike ride and a 30km run.

Dear Spartans,

Just thought that I would drop you all a quick note on behalf of myself and Adam to once again thank you all for your support in sending us both to IBIZA.

To say that we had fun would be an understatement. I have never experienced anything like it in my life! It was awesome to be part of a team and for once actually feel like a real athlete. The team atmosphere was excellent with GB apparently having the biggest group there. There were lots of team gatherings and group swims, bikes and runs so we were never without someone to go for a quick dip or jogette with!

The day itself was probably better than I could have ever hoped. I have never swum as far as 4k until that morning so was a little pensive but managed it and felt OK. Out of the water and on to the mean machine for 120k of pure pleasure..........? The roads were excellently maintained and traffic free and made it an absolute joy apart from the stomach cramps!!!!! Had to stop for 2 weees which meant that I was well enough hydrated I suppose! On to the run and I have to say that I struggled a little on the first of the three laps. A worry as this is as you would think would be my strength! Still on on, and I got better and better as the run went on phew! I could actually see myself gaining on Adam at last (he, by the way is the daddy!) In to the finish and emotions were fairly high, tears were close and it is the best end of race feeling I have ever experienced, fanflippintastic!

I have to mention my Lucky Legs Fan Club who were absolutely fantastic throughout as well as the huge number of GB supporters around the course, all helping to drive us on to achieve some fairly impressive results Adam 17th in our Age Group and me in 19th spot, not too shoddy for a couple of scuffers from Hitchin.

Fairlands Valley have definitely now arrived on the World Map!
