Turbo Training

Coached club turbo training sessions are held on Thursday evenings between 7:00pm SHARP at Hitchin Boys School.  You will need to be there at 6:45pm latest to set-up and warm-up.  Turbo trainers are also available for hire to new members at £2 per session

These sessions have proven to be extremely popular due to the demanding workout they offer yet the sociable nature of being able to train with other athletes.  A typical session will include a structured warm-up, generally with single leg pedalling, a main set of exercises concentrating on technique, strength and endurance and some all-important core exercises during the warm-down.

If you have never experienced Turbo Training, now is the time to get involved, you will find that you will get a far better and far safer quality ride than any hard training session on the road.

For FVS TRI regulars the sessions are downloadable from the training schedule.  But by popular request there is also an archive accessible via the forum.

What is a Turbo Trainer?

A Turbo Trainer is a simple device on which you mount your bike and apply resistance to the back wheel.  You can purchase a turbo from around £80 for a basic model up to a few hundred pounds for a model you can plug into your PC.  We recommend that you purchase a mid range model as it will definitely last a lot longer and join in our club sessions rather than trying to beat the computer!

TriSports can supply a range of good quality turbos and will give you plenty of helpful advice on what will be best for you.

What will I need for a Turbo Session?

Due to the tough nature of turbo training you will be likely to sweat an awful lot, so we recommend that you bring plenty of fluids, preferably some carbohydrate drink and a towel.  There will always be a core session during the training, so you should bring along a yoga mat or a large towel to lie on, unless you would prefer to lie directly in a puddle of your own gravy.

You will of course require your bike, cycling shoes and a turbo trainer although the club can loan one too you if this is your first test of the experience, if this is the case please contact Keith Perry well in advance of the session.

Thursday turbo sessions

LOCATION Dining Room at (HBS) Hitchin Boys School, Grammar School Walk, Hitchin  Click here for map

DO NOT GO THROUGH THE MAIN GATE as you did for Summer Turbo as the Dining Room is in the top part of the school.

Park in the small car park on the left before you go through the main gate (next to the Sports Centre Reception) or if running late there is a car park at the back of Wilkinson’s and a barriered car park less than 100m back up the road. If absolutely stuck, park where you used to for summer turbo.  I appreciate that there will be a little further to carry kit than in previous venues and so I suggest you get there as early as possible to get a good space. The car park will be shared with Karate but they start after us and so you should get in there before the rush.

The dining room is accessed from the small car park, walking down into the school keeping the gym on your left.

I reckon the room will take about 50 and so we will not be short of space!

A coach will be there from 6:30pm and the session starts at 7:00pm SHARP, if you are not set-up and warming-up at 7:00pm you may not be able to train, so you need to be there at 6:45pm to set-up.
