July 2008 ALL CHANGE - Run sessions will now be based out of Hitchin Boys School Sports Centre on Fishponds Road following our departure from JHN in Stevenage and the closing of another chapter in the history of FVS TRI. The set up for run sessions will be changing to bring them more into line with the training requirements of triathletes. Historically our roots were in running and so much of our training has been run based. With the timely move away from Stevenage it seemed appropriate to review our training week and seek to offer more focussed sessions for triathletes. Running will now become more training group focussed with the summer mid week run offering members the chance to run their longer steadier runs with athletes of similar ability, or to maybe drop down a group for a recovery run if they have raced or a steadier run if preparing for a race. The hard sessions will now be track based at Ridlins as well as during the brick sessions on a Thursday. Again at the track the emphasis will switch away from 1 session fits all to training groups working with coaches who will also train with the group. This switch of emphasis should provide for more focussed training for runners of all abilities. The faster group can work really hard without impacting on the slower groups, and the slower and improver groups will get fitter working on sessions targeted at their ability levels. Track sessions will now feature on selected Wednesday/ Friday evenings throughout the year and the timing will depend on the schedule. This will also apply to turbo/run sessions which will move around the schedule dependent on forthcoming races and where we are in the year. So for instance, turbo may switch to Tuesday some weeks with a hard track session on the Wednesday and an easier recovery run on the Thursday. Similarly if we have race hard on the Sunday we may have a recovery run on the Tuesday with hard track session on Wednesday. This flexible schedule will challenge some of you but will mean we are able to offer different sessions to different groups at different times.
The opening of the new facility is a very exciting development for our club. The set up was funded by the LTA along with the refurbished tennis courts. We are lucky as the main room was designed around use as a turbo room and hopefully we will also make more use of this room. The facility is shared with other users but will give us more of a club base. With the switch away from 1 session fits all, we plan to offer more bike/run sessions. So you may want to do a longer bike/run session on a Tuesday with maybe a 40 min turbo session and 5 mile run? we now have this facility. Different groups can train at different times but still maintain a focus as we will be meeting at the same place.
I hope to see more of a club night develop with massage and sports injury treatment being offered in the treatment room, circuit training and maybe even a yoga night on a monthly or fortnightly basis to complement our current set up. The new facility has a kitchen as well as showers and so you will be able to grab a coffee if you just want to hang out after training and if I get organised maybe even an FVS TRI Whey Protein Recovery Shake (watch this space........)

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SCHEDULE
· Sunday pit sessions - check forum as these will not run every week due to racing etc
· Saturday run sessions from the pool – again as advertised
· Circuit training/ yoga – watch the Forum – mail me for interest
· Bike/run – mail me or post if you would like to do bike/run sessions in addition to turbo
· Transition practice – can be done at HBS on the grass – mail or post if you want to practice getting on/off bike
Please note as the Club Middle Distance Champs are on Saturday 12th July, there will be no form al swim coaching at HSC. There should be a pit session as normal subject to a key holder being available – watch Forum for details.
Also Tuesday 22nd July is the 3k Lake Relays at Fairlands Valley. I hope to enter approx 10 teams (best men, best women and then similar ability intra club competition teams) See posting and register interest if not already done so. Club pays and suitable for all abilities. This is a great fun night and not to be missed!
