Open Water Swim Programme

For 2008 we will be running a club register for completion on every visit to the Pit. You will be required to sign in and sign out to prove that you are not dead in the water.

The register will be pre printed for each session and only those registered to swim will be able to participate in the session. Not pre registered = no swim.  So you need to register well in advance. To help prepare for open water swimming we need to know your ability as well as your intention to swim.

You will either be:

1.    FVS TRI open water experienced (already own the orange swim hat and have swum in the pit previously)

2.    Experienced – have competed in at least 2 open water swims before joining club. Familiarisation session will be at my discretion and you need to get approval before attending sessions

3.    No open water experience – regular swimmer at improver level and above (400m in sub 8:30)but not in open water. Need to complete a familiarisation session with a Club coach and get the coveted orange hat

4.    Uncertain – swim regularly, but not yet an improver. Would like to have a go but need a 1:1 or small group session with coach

Please mail Keith and advise whether you are 1-4 as above.

All meets at Arlesey FC for car sharing to minimise parking at the lagoon.

IMPORTANT SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

  • All sessions are in the private facility at the Lagoon and so you must meet at the allocated times as the gate will be locked once we have entered the compound. Late comers will not be admitted.
  • First timers and novice swimmers must not swim in open Club sessions until cleared with me.
  • Novice and first timers are by appointment only for safety reasons. (as a guide you need to be able to swim 800m before even considering applying to swim in an open session)
  • First timers must complete an induction session with a swim coach before swimming with the Club. These will start this week and are by appointment only
  • Additional 1:1 sessions are available at swim rate of £10 per session.
  • No swimming outside FVS TRI advertised sessions
  • Club supplied orange hats are compulsory, no exceptions
  • Triathlon wet suits are compulsory – water ski/surf suits as they are completely unsuitable for open water swimming.

If in doubt you must communicate with Keith before you intend to swim. Do not just turn up, you may be turned away.

SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT
